ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey can play a facilitating role over the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a telephone interview on Saturday, according to his services. .

The Russian army captured the Zaporizhia power plant in the first weeks of its offensive in Ukraine. The bombardments around the site raise fears of a nuclear catastrophe.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin also discussed Ukrainian grain exports, according to the Turkish presidency. They further expressed their determination to continue the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey, in accordance with the defined project.

The two leaders agreed to discuss all these issues in detail at a summit scheduled for September 15-16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Turkish presidency said.
