Turmoil before the tour – Poland coach Thurnbichler dismisses the assistant coach

Vortex in the Polish ski jumping team before the start of the Four Hills Tournament. Head coach Thomas Thurnbichler fired assistant coach Mark Nölke. A successor has already been chosen in the form of the Polish base coach Wojciech Topor. “It was my hardest decision,” admitted the 34-year-old Tyrolean.

Poland’s ski jumpers started the World Cup winter with a crash landing. After eight competitions, double world champion Piotr Zyla is ranked 22nd as his team’s best flyer in the overall World Cup. In the Nations Cup, head coach Thomas Thurnbichler’s team is only in seventh place. This is why the alarm sirens are ringing in the media in the country that is crazy about ski jumping. The dismissal of assistant coach Mark Nölke during the Christmas break was all the more surprising. “I continue to be convinced of the professional qualities. It was my hardest decision,” explained Thomas Thurnbichler. The 34-year-old Tyrolean has already chosen a successor, the Polish base coach Wojciech Topor. It remains to be seen whether and in what role Nölke will remain with the Polish Ski Association. The 50-year-old German worked for the Austrian team under Alexander Pointner for many years, after which the ex-ski jumper also briefly worked for the German Ski Association.
