In the mid-80s, Eddie Murphy slipped into his legendary role as Axel Foley for the first time and created entertaining action cinema, which is now getting a fourth sequel after over 30 years. The film series is a turbulent mixture of slapstick and action crime and has become a cult action comedy for the whole family.

The film “Beverly Hills Cop” is about a Detroit police officer who travels to Beverly Hills to solve his friend’s murder.

Axel Foley on his own mission

Detective Axel Foley has been working for the Detroit police department for years. One evening he is visited by his old friend Mikey, who is soon murdered by hitmen right in front of his eyes. Foley’s boss forbids him from investigating the case, but Axel won’t let that go. He travels to Beverly Hills and smuggles his way into the world of the rich and famous. There, the gallery owner and art dealer Victor Maitland comes across the secret and it quickly becomes clear that nothing is right here.

Eddie Murphy (“Prince of Zamunda”) plays the role of police officer Axel Foley for the first time in “Beverly Hills Cop”. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton and Lisa Eilbacher play alongside him.

Eddie Murphy makes Beverly Hills Cop a cult film

“Beverly Hills Cop” is a unique blend of humor, action, music and characters that has resulted in it finding a permanent place in the hearts of many viewers over the years and is considered a cult film.

Eddie Murphy’s portrayal of the rebellious but charismatic detective Axel Foley was a large part of the film’s success. His unique humor and quick-witted improvised dialogues delighted the audience.

The film music of “Beverly Hills Cop”, especially the iconic title song “Axel F” by Harold Faltermeyer, contributed significantly to the film’s cult status. The driving synth soundtrack has become a symbol of the 80s.

Axel Foley is not your typical action hero. He’s more of an anti-hero who often defies the rules and does things his own way. This rebellious and unconventional personality is what the audience likes about the character.
