Franziska Schlüter works as a legal advisor for the Cologne insurance company Aescuria. It is their job to systematically refuse benefits to the disabled and sick. When the French Amaury Leblanc (Charlotte Krenz) appears in the claims department of the insurance company and blames Franziska and Aescuria's delaying behavior for the death of her husband, who has multiple sclerosis, the legal adviser begins to have doubts.

The fisherman Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) was kidnapped in the 1990s during the civil war in Sierra Leone and forced to work in diamond mines. There he finds a rare pink rough diamond, hides it and later tells the mercenary Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) about it in prison. After his escape, Archer sets off with the US journalist Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly) to look for Solomon in the rebel-controlled unrest provinces.

But on the island not only inspector Brockhorst (Felix Vörtler), who stays in the same hotel, arouses Wilsberg's suspicion. The deceased's children and secretary also behave strangely in the dispute over the million-dollar inheritance.
