Will Twitter take the leap?
For many years now, rumors have been swirling about this important topic: Will TweetDeck become paid? The American social network had already consulted its members through a form in 2017 and Bloomberg reported last year that the arrival of Twitter Blue could mean the end of free TweetDeck. Now, the question arises seriously following new findings from reverse engineering specialist Jane Manchun Wong.
The engineer was able to explore Twitter’s code and discovered that TweetDeck appeared in the list of features available with a Twitter Blue subscription at €2.99 per month. A subscription holder would be able to access the tool directly, while another would be automatically redirected to a page encouraging them to take a paid account. She takes the opportunity to point out that, if Twitter decided to take this step, millions of people would find themselves deprived of access to TweetDeck since Twitter Blue is currently only available in four countries: the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
It should also be remembered that TweetDeck, originally a third-party application but acquired by Twitter in 2011, is a free tool offering many useful features in the fields of journalism, marketing or communication.
