The babies Alfredo and Aylin Trujillo are dizygoti twins – and yet they were born on different days. Not only that: they are even of different age groups. Such a strange coincidence is very rare, said the hospital, and put the probability that twins will be born in different years at about one in two million. Fatima Madrigal, the baby’s mother, couldn’t believe it either: “I think it’s crazy that they are twins and have different birthdays.”

Both babies are fine

Madrigal and her husband Robert Trujillo already have three other children, a boy and two girls. Above all, her son was looking forward to the little brother, said Madrigal. The two newborns are doing well: Aylin was born weighing around 2665 grams, her brother, who was in a bit of a hurry, weighed 2750 grams at birth.

Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a doctor at Natividad Medical Center, described the unusual event as “one of the most memorable” births of her career: “It was an absolute honor to help these two arrive safely in 2021 and 2022. What a great way to start the new year. “

Twins were born in different millennia

Even if the probability is very low, twins are born in different years almost every turn of the year. Even more unusual, however, is the story of the twins Mircam and Mircem, who were born on New Year’s Eve 1999 and New Year 2000 in Berlin only four minutes in a row – but their birthdays are in different millennia.
