In 2021, Twitch has removed over 15 million bots from its platform, and these deletions still continue. In an open letter from the Vice President of Trust and Safety, Angela Hession, are discussed the progress of the platform against hate raids as well as on security issues.
Hate raids have always existed on Twitch but we have witnessed a resurgence of the latter during the year 2021. The events that took place in 2021 on Twitch are considered by Angela Hession as the “most vicious attacks” seen on the platform. These attacks mainly concern color streamers but also from the LGBTQIA+ community as well as military veterans. “This kind of behavior has no place on Twitch and we know that we can do more to protect our communitysays Angela Hession in the letter.

In the eyes of the platform, Twitch users should not have to suffer this kind of treatment. It’s impossible for Twitch to remove these raids entirely, but they are actively working to remove all bots from the platform. In her letter, Angela Hession states this:
We continue to work on proactive site-wide detection updates, as well as pursuing legal action against those who carried out numerous attacks
What’s more, direct community feedback helps Twitch tremendously to solve these problems and Angela Hession even calls users to continue to report to them the various problems they witness. Twitch has made great progress on the issue of security on its platform. The industry’s first policy of conduct to protect streamers from harm caused outside of Twitch has also been set up but also a chat system only for accounts with a verified phone number or a system for detecting suspicious users to counter ban escapes.
Hession also announces that Twitch’s top priority will be to improve transparency towards users by preventing “bad actors” from using this information to counter security efforts. Everything will be done to ensure that Twitch remains the best platform to build a community. Improvements will be made to the reporting and assistance system. Updates will be made to the systems of Detection of Suspicious Users, but also to politicians on Sexualized Content and the Safety Advisory Board. Finally, Twitch wants to guarantee better educational content, better programming of the Security Center, streams and more.
