Twitter adds more payment methods for Donations

Twitter has announced new payment sources for donations users can choose to give to creators on the platform.

The “Tips” feature, or “Dons” in the French version, was introduced at the beginning of 2021. It has been accessible to all users aged 18 or over since 2022. The “follower” can thus reward a Twitter personality, simply by going to their profile and clicking on the donate icon to send them funds in the amount of their choosing.

Support content creators

According to Twitter, this service allows users to “show their support, express their appreciation, help or reward whoever they want, whether they are emerging creators, journalists, animators of Twitter spaces or others “.

Previously, the feature supported multiple third-party payment services, but was limited to traditional credit card or bitcoin payments. Now, Twitter adds support three additional third-party payment processors: Paga, Barter by Flutterwave, and Paytm.

Users who receive donations also now have the option to add their Ethereum address, which means that other users will be able to send funds directly to their digital wallets via this cryptocurrency.

Extend the Donations feature to more users

That Twitter supported bitcoin was obvious at the time, given the support given to this digital currency by former CEO Jack Dorsey. But now that the latter is moving on to other projects and new CEO Parag Agrawal is in charge, the social networking platform could explore competing alternative currencies for the first time.

This change also makes it easier for Twitter users in many new countries to support their favorite creators, thanks to the list of countries that have never been supported before and now have the option to contribute via the trio of new payment platforms.

Additional information about donations, how to sign up to receive them, and how they are funded can be found on Twitter’s support page.
