Elon Musk announced it, he really wants to change Twitter. Mission already accomplished since since the formalization of his takeover, he has managed to trust all that the platform has racists, homophobes, or even anti-Semites.

Yoel Roth, Twitter’s security and integrity manager, has noted since Musk’s takeover of the platform an increase in tweets containing discriminating insults or prohibited content. Much of this content is unfortunately organic, but Roth also noted that many fake accounts help create this atmosphere.

Despite himself, Musk has already transformed the platform

“The bird is free”. This first tweet from Elon Musk as Twitter boss sets the tone. Musk wants to impose his vision of freedom of expression, which almost amounts to removing the role of moderation on his new toy. He has already dismissed part of the former management team, and returned Kanye West’s account, suspended after his anti-Semitic statements. Trump’s may soon follow, along with any accounts deleted for tweets that violate the platform’s rules.

By clearly expressing that he was against permanent bans and that all comments had their place on Twitter, the billionaire opened Pandora’s box. Indeed, tens of thousands of hateful messages have since been constantly spreading on the social network. A very good illustration of this radical change, the use of N-Word on the platform has increased sixfold since its takeover. Behind this proliferation of deliberately outrageous messages are deliberate campaigns, notably organized on 4chan.

This situation is particularly cruel for Musk, insofar as the latter has not yet made the slightest modification in Twitter’s content policy: his mere presence at the head of the company has been enough to give free rein to hatred. on the social network.

Elon Musk seeks to reassure advertisers

An observation that could not have escaped Elon Musk himself, while his convictions quickly came up against the economic imperative. Many advertisers have already left the platform or announced their intention to do so, citing their lack of enthusiasm at the idea of ​​seeing the promotion of their products rub shoulders with calls for murder or hate messages.

In response to this, Musk watered down his wine and posted a text aimed at advertisers. If he reiterates his intention to free the words, he puts a limit on it. In particular, he recalls that the content posted must not violate the law of the countries from which they originate and affirms his intention not to make Twitter a ” hell where anything goes “.

It therefore remains for him to develop what he means by that.
