Companies and institutions will gradually have to take out a subscription to maintain their certification and those of their employees.

From Saturday, Twitter will gradually withdraw the certifications it had granted free of charge in recent years to celebrities, political figures or journalists, but also to companies and associations. These blue checkmarks, present on the profile page, made it possible to fight against identity theft. The social network, bought in November by Elon Musk, now wants to push companies and institutions to take out a subscription to maintain their certification and those of their employees. For France, the price is 950 euros per month, to which are added 50 euros per employee to be certified – for example, journalists from an editorial office or the management of a company.

Losing this certification will lead to a loss of visibility. Elon Musk announced Tuesday that starting April 15, only “verified accounts” will be recommended in the “For You” feed, an algorithmic feed that mixes accounts followed by the user and others suggested by the platform. Only they will also be able to respond to surveys published on the platform. Elon Musk is looking for new revenue streams as Twitter’s ad revenue has plummeted since its takeover. Twitter Blue, a subscription targeting individuals, would have generated only $ 11 million in revenue in three months, according to Sensor Tower.
