Twitter reborn under X, Musk eyeing WeChat

Elon Musk has been steering Twitter towards what he calls an “everything app” for some time. And now a legal document reveals that he is one step away from making this idea a reality.

A legal document filed on April 4, 2023 reveals that Twitter has merged with X Corp. and therefore no longer officially exists. The document also reveals that X Corp’s parent company is X Holdings Corp:

The merger has yet to be revealed to the public, although Musk’s grand plan to turn Twitter into an “X” began long before he acquired the platform. When Musk was in negotiations to buy Twitter, he tweeted about the possibility of turning Twitter into “X, the app for everything”.

The app would look like WeChat or Grab

The app would look like WeChat or Grab. These Asian applications serve as a one-stop-shop for most user needs, from interaction via a social network to a payment service for e-commerce.

This is not the first time that Elon Musk has mentioned this idea. In May 2022, in the All-In podcast, he spoke of the need for a super-application capable of responding to a whole series of daily uses.

“If you’re in China, you kind of live on WeChat,” said Elon Musk. “She does everything. It’s kind of like Twitter, plus PayPal, plus a whole bunch of stuff rolled into one, with a great interface. It really is a great app, and we don’t have anything like it outside of China. »

Replicating an app the size of WeChat is tricky business, but Elon Musk is ready to go, having already taken the first step.
