Twitter reorganizes after the accusations of a former executive of the group on its security breaches

(AOF) – According to an internal note consulted by Reuters, Twitter has decided to overhaul the organization of the teams responsible for combating unwanted content and automated accounts. This choice comes after the complaint filed by Peiter Zatko, former head of company security. The latter pointed out the weaknesses of the social network in a document sent in July to the American Congress as well as to the regulator of the American financial markets the SEC.

He alleges that Twitter is unable to accurately assess how many bots are polluting the social network and that potential flaws are linked to the existence of outdated servers and software vulnerable to attack.

He even claims that Twitter would have deceived the regulatory authorities on the measures taken to fight against piracy and protect the sensitive data of its users.

His allegations could have explosive fallout in the lawsuit between Elon Musk and Twitter. The American billionaire refused to pursue the plan to take over Twitter, accusing the blue bird social network of having misled him about the number of monetizable accounts.

The serious European adjustment of the Internet giants

An agreement was reached on March 24 on the supervision of Internet giants, with new legislation on digital markets, the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This text aims to regulate the anti-competitive practices of the main players. With the DMA, the European Commission sets a framework to be respected, the sector now being subject to regulations similar to those of the energy, banking or telecommunications sectors. The scale of fines has also been adapted to the economic power of those involved: in the event of an infringement, they may represent 6% to 20% of global turnover. In the event of a repeat offence, business transfers may be imposed. On the other hand, in the United States, the regulatory process has still not succeeded despite the authorities’ determination.
