A year after the murder, they confessed the motive for their crime : they say they are frustrated by the bad mark given by their teacher. The two young men Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale, explained their motivation during a court hearing in FairField on Wednesday, November 2.
The facts date exactly from November 3, 2021 and took place in the United States, in Iowa. After claiming their innocence, the two young teenagers decided to break the silence around this case and reveal the truth. A year ago, numerous witnesses had identified Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale as the main suspects in this case.
The sequence of events
The two suspects did not actually did not act on a stroke of madness : they first met to prepare their murder. It is by capturing conversations exchanged on Snapchat that the investigators were able to establish the sequence of events. This conversation between the two suspects showed that they met one evening to discuss this famous note given by their Spanish teacher. Everything then happened very quickly: the victim left school to drive to the park where she used to go for a walk. The two young men followed him and the witnesses say they then saw the two suspects, driving the professor’s car, leaving the park.
When the body is found 24 hours later in Fairfield Park, the autopsy reveals that the professor was beaten to death with a baseball bat. And if Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale began by denying the murder, a witness gave the investigators the necessary proof: a conversation in which Jeremy Goodale admits not having acted alone and in which he designates Willard Miller as his accomplice. They both waited a year to confess the motive for their murder: they had received a bad mark.
The suspects will be tried separately but as adults since they are now 17 years old: Jeremy Goodale will be tried on December 5 and Willard Miller on March 20, 2023.
