Two parents and their 25-year-old daughter were found dead in their home in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, near Rennes. Where is the investigation?
Since Wednesday November 23, 2022, the village of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, located near Rennes in Ille-et-Vilaine, has been in shock. One of the houses has become the scene of an investigation for double murders followed by a suicide. Yesterday, firefighters discovered the bodies of two parents and their 25-year-old daughter. “On the spot, (…) the man was found hanged, the woman lying on her bed and their daughter on the floor from his room“, indicated Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes. According to the first information relayed by The Parisianthe victims are a 50-year-old father, a maintenance worker in a college, his wife, a young 62-year-old retiree and their daughter, in her twenties.
The employer of the latter would have given the alert when she did not show up at her place of work on the morning of the tragedy. For now, the police seem to be leaning towards a hypothesis, that of a double murder followed by a suicide. The reason for this theory? A letter found at the scene of the tragedy.

“The first forensic findings revealed the existence of trauma to the woman’s body (60-year-old). However, no trace of violence was visible on the body of his daughter.“, said the prosecutor. Investigators are still awaiting the results of the autopsies carried out on the three corpses, “in order to determine precisely the causes of death“. However, a letter found in the house of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande could suggest that the father of the family could have committed these acts.
“A writing was found at the family home, apparently signed by the hand of the man, in which he announced that he was ending his life as well as those of his companion and his daughter. He attributed his actions to a malaise which could be linked to a serious illness from which he would be suffering”, details the magistrate. A flagrant investigation was opened and entrusted by the departmental security of Ille-et-Vilaine under the qualification of assassinations.
