Apple warns of two vulnerabilities exploited by hackers. The brand invites you to update iPhones, iPads and Macs with the new iOS 17.1.2 version.
Apple has discovered flaws used by hackers in its internal software. The updates have been available since November 30, 2023 on the Apple security updates list. The iPhone maker details the fixes in a blog post for versions iOS and iPadOS 17.1.2, and macOS 14.1.2.
Concretely, Apple indicates that it has corrected two vulnerabilities in WebKit, the software behind the Safari browser and other applications. These flaws allow hackers to remotely plant malicious code, such as spyware, on a person’s device. This vulnerability is considered “zero-day” since the Apple brand was preceded by hackers in discovering this flaw. The company has no details on the origins of the hackers or their motivations.
Apple also rolled out an update to its browser, Safari 17.1.2, for users using older versions of macOS Monterey and macOS Ventura.
A similar flaw at Google
This announcement comes three days after another update alert, this time from competitor Google. The web giant has released a major patch to patch this flaw in its Chrome browser. This vulnerability also allows malicious code to be injected from the outside.
