Two arrests – shots at Wr. Neustadt: Several injured

Further details became known after the large-scale police operation in the evening hours of Epiphany at the main train station in Wiener Neustadt. The reason for the alert was a violent confrontation between two groups with a migration background. Knives and a gas pistol are said to have been used. Several people involved were injured, some seriously, and arrests were made.

According to the police, two rival groups clashed at the train station. Several of those involved had knives with them, and shots from a blank gun were fired in the course of the dispute. When the alarmed police, including forces from the Cobra Task Force, arrived on site, the people involved fled – allegedly they were Syrians, Turks and Chechens. According to the police, three people involved were injured in the confrontation, one of them seriously. There were at least two arrests, but nothing is known about the background to the dispute. The station was closed during the police operation. The train traffic stood still for about an hour. All trains were searched. The investigations are ongoing, and recordings from surveillance cameras at the train station are also being evaluated as part of the surveys, it said.
