Two driving licenses gone – Caught: Almost 100 km/h too fast and drunk!

You would think that anyone who gets behind the wheel drunk is at least trying to behave inconspicuously. Two men were not only heavily intoxicated, but also pressed the accelerator hard until they were caught by the police.

A 37-year-old man from Bosnia/Herzegovina and a 29-year-old man from North Macedonia had to hand in their driving licenses almost at the same time. On Saturday night, between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m., officials carried out speed measurements in the Südring area in Klagenfurt. In June 2021, three young men crashed into a house wall at 160 km/h, two of whom died in the accident. And that night too, the police noticed a car driving too fast. “The car was measured at 137 km/h at the permitted speed of 70 km/h,” said a police officer. In addition, the 37-year-old was heavily intoxicated. Driver’s licenses were taken on site. At the same time, a patrol also noticed a speeder on Keutschacherstrasse in Klagenfurt. “During the follow-up drive, it was discovered that the speed limit was 100 km/h and the permitted speed was 50 km/h. At the permitted speed of 70 km/h, the driver was measured at 160 km/h,” says an official. When the 29-year-old was finally stopped, the breathalyzer test confirmed that he was also moderately intoxicated. Both drivers’ licenses were confiscated on site.
