Two fire departments in action – defective neon tube: smoke detector sounded the alarm

Save lives, prevent damage: Once again, a smoke alarm prevented anything worse from happening.

Smoke detectors have been mandatory in Carinthia since the summer of 2013, i.e. for a good ten years. Once again, such a little watchdog has proven how much damage he can prevent: Sunday evening at 10:02 p.m. there was a siren alarm in Rennweg am Katschberg: smoke was developing in a building! A transformer in a neon tube had burned out, which, in addition to the smell and smoke, also led to the development of strong heat . The St. Peter/Oberdorf and Rennweg volunteer fire departments responded. However, they didn’t have to put out a fire yet, but rather remove the defective neon tube and check the entire area using a thermal imaging camera. The Florianijüngers were then able to move in again because the activated smoke detector had probably prevented anything worse from happening.
