Until recently, the 1162 meter high Schneiderberg in Grünau was considered an insider tip. Due to the current tour recommendation of a weekly newspaper, however, it has now moved into the focus of hikers for a short time. The Grünau mountain rescue team had to go there twice on Sunday. “The first time a hiker collapsed, luckily the whole thing ended lightly and could also be ended quickly,” said Martin Trautmann, head of the local branch. Unmarked route The recovery of an elderly couple who had lost their way on the unmarked hiking route turned out to be much more complex. The 70-year-old from Marchtrenk and her 74-year-old companion from Linz left the Seehof car park for the Schneiderberg at 10.30 a.m. They reached the summit and then descended towards the Almsee at around 1:45 p.m. According to the police, they followed a wilderness path and climbed up in the steep, mountain pines-strewn terrain in such a way that they could not safely go forwards or backwards when breaking into a ditch. Coordinates transmitted At 3:37 p.m., they made an emergency call. “It got dark during our ascent. The couple was able to send us their location coordinates, ”explains Trautwein. 15 mountain rescuers and two alpine police officers were on duty. It was possible to reach them with lights and shouts. “The man was already very exhausted. We have set up a rope insurance over 80 meters in length and brought both of them safely back to the valley. “
