Does your skin feel tight? Is it dry, especially in winter? What if you tried a squalane serum ? This active ingredient, derived from the olive, is increasingly popular in the world of cosmetics and for good reason, it has many advantages. It is naturally present in our epidermis since it is one of the main components of sebum and the hydrolipidic film. It has moisturizing, emollient, softening and softening properties, which makes it the best ally for dehydrated skin, especially for anti-acne treatments. Indeed, if it has an oily texture, it does not clog the pores.

More and more brands specializing in cosmetics are putting squalane in the spotlight. This is particularly the case of Typology with its nourishing serum, but also of Indie Lee with its squalane oil. These two products are designed to nourish and moisturize dry skin but also to reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines or sagging skin. Do they keep their promises? Here is my opinion after testing!

This nourishing serum is made from 100% squalane, derived from olives. It is a 100% natural product that achieves a rating of 100/100 on Yuka. Highly concentrated, it is thought to prevent the reduction of sebum in the epidermis in order to nourish the skin and retain its hydration. While it is suitable for all skin types, it is especially intended for dry or dehydrated skin and promises to reduce feelings of tightness, while preventing the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines, due to dehydration.

This oil is also 100% pure squalane oil, derived from olive oil. Non-comedogenic, smoothing and moisturizing, it is suitable for all skin types, especially combination to oily skin. This product promises to improve skin texture over time to nourish, hydrate and soothe the skin so that it regains balance, firmness and radiance.

Typology nourishing serum VS Indie Lee’s squalane oil, the match!

These two serums are both very similar but does one of them stand out? Here are the criteria on which we evaluated them to decide between them.

The two serums both consist of vegetable squalane, derived from olives. They are both 100% natural, vegan and fragrance free.

Verdict:

Obviously, this is a tie! Typology’s Nourishing Squalane Serum and Indie Lee’s Squalane Oil both have great formulations. One ingredient is enough!

Typology’s serum unsurprisingly has an oily texture that I find a little oilier than Indie Lee’s. Anyway, the oily effect does not stay on the skin and no sticky film in sight.

Verdict:
Indie Lee’s squalane oil barely gets the point, I find the texture more fluid than that of the Typology serum. I have a better feeling of hydration with the Indie Lee one but it depends on what you are looking for!

The Nourishing Serum with Squalane from Typology has a square, very elegant and glass packaging, which is particularly ecological. This one from Indie Lee is cylindrical, chic and also made of glass. Both are equipped with a pipette and it must be admitted that that of Indie Lee is more practical for pouring the right dose of product.

Verdict:
Indie Lee’s squalane oil wins the point thanks to its more practical and precise pipette.

Typology’s Nourishing Squalane Serum is available in 15ml while Indie Lee’s Squalane Oil is available in 30ml as well as 10ml.

Verdict:
Once again, it’s Indie Lee’s squalane oil that wins this round. We appreciate that there is a travel format to discover the product or to take it everywhere with you as well as a 30ml format for daily use over several months.

Typology’s Nourishing Serum is priced at €14.30, while Indie Lee’s is priced at €15 for 10ml and €39 for 30ml.

Verdict:
This time, it’s Typology’s nourishing serum that wins the point because it’s much cheaper than Indie Lee’s squalane oil, even if you take two!

Typology’s Nourishing Serum soothes and moisturizes the skin for a long time. Although it is a little greasy on application, the effect does not last and the care is well assimilated by the skin during the rest of the routine. It is also possible to apply makeup immediately after using it.

Indie Lee’s squalane oil soothes the skin and provides a real boost of hydration. Ultra-pleasant, it visibly improves skin texture and leaves the skin well hydrated for a long time. It is a perfect base for the rest of the skincare routine and even for make-up!

Verdict:

Both squalane oils keep their promises and are effective, so it’s a tie! I still prefer applying the Typology serum at night rather than in the morning.

Typology VS Indie Lee, which squalane serum wins the match?

Indie Lee’s squalane oil is unsurprisingly the big winner. This product is a real revelation for my oily and acne-prone skin. The oil radically improves its appearance and durably moisturizes it. The skin is then much more comfortable and hydrated, all without causing new imperfections, quite the contrary. It is suitable for all skin types and can be used both in the morning and in the evening. Qualitative, pleasant but also practical, it has it all! It is a very beautiful discovery that I can only recommend to you.

>> Fall for Indie Lee’s squalane oil

The Typology Nourishing Serum is not demerit because it has an excellent composition, it keeps its promises and all this for a very good price/quality ratio. It comes second because of its pipette but also because I find it a little fatter than Indie Lee’s. So, I prefer to apply it only at night. However, it is very suitable for people with very dry or mature skin.

How to choose your squalane serum?

It is important to check that your squalane serum is of vegetable origin. Indeed, it is a controversial ingredient because it can be synthetic, vegetable or animal. The latter is extracted from shark liver. For this, the animal is killed so that we can extract the squalane from its viscera before rejecting it at sea. If this practice is less and less common, it is preferable to opt for vegetable squalane for reasons ethical and ecological.

As for synthetic squalane, it comes from the petrochemical industry which transforms hydrocarbons from the subsoil in order to create it synthetically. This is a choice that poses a major environmental problem. Thus, for the good of your skin, the planet and animals, it is recommended to choose vegetable squalane, derived from olives. This is the case with Typology serum and Indie Lee oil, natural, plant-based and vegan.
