CAIRO, Jan 22 (Reuters) – The United Arab Emirates has grounded most private drones and light recreational aircraft for a month from Saturday, the interior ministry said, following a deadly attack this week by the Yemen Houthis against the Gulf country.
The United Arab Emirates said the Iran-backed Shia movement used missiles and drones in an attack on Monday that killed three civilians.
“The MOI (Ministry of Interior) is currently halting all flight operations for drone owners and enthusiasts, including drones and light sport aircraft,” he said in a statement.
The United Arab Emirates said the Houthi-led attack hit a fuel depot of state oil company ADNOC Musaffah and a construction site near Abu Dhabi airport.
The Gulf country is part of a Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen. He has armed and trained local Yemeni forces that have recently joined the fighting against the Houthis in the energy-producing regions of Shabwa and Marib in Yemen.
