To put an end to the controversies surrounding the drivers of their platform, Uber the other VTC players announced that they had found a “ major agreement on transparency and opt-outs » drivers.

After reaching an agreement at the start of the year on a minimum income per trip, VTC platforms, led by Uber, announced that they had reached a major agreement on Wednesday September 20 focused on transparency and the protection of drivers’ rights, who demanded better compensation. Resulting from sectoral negotiations, it aims to provide more clarity and control to independent drivers. This will not prevent the platforms from keeping an even closer eye on drivers who stray from the straight and narrow.

Drivers will know exactly why they had their account deactivated

Uber and several other VTC applications today announced the signing of a historic agreement aimed at increasing transparency and strengthening the protection of independent drivers. This agreement is the result of constructive sectoral social dialogue and reflects companies’ commitment to balancing flexibility and workers’ rights.

But what are we talking about concretely? Drivers will have increased access to essential information regarding the operation of Uber-type platforms. They will also benefit from a better understanding of the criteria used to set ride prices and assign trips.

We know that many VTC drivers have been singled out for, in particular, having canceled trips at the last minute, plunging users into a certain embarrassment. From now on, in the event of deactivation of their account, drivers will be transparently informed of the underlying reasons and will have the opportunity to present their observations before any final decision.

Drivers compensated in the event of exclusion, and at the same time, a more in-depth study of their faults

In addition to what could be considered a possibility of appeal, the agreement also provides for a second chance procedure for drivers whose accounts have been deactivated. Any reactivation will also take into account the safety of passengers and other drivers.

In the event of deactivation due to a platform error, drivers will be compensated for their loss of earnings, which will partly meet their desire for financial stability, in the event of an administrative problem with the company.

Companies like Uber plan to recruit staff who will be dedicated to communicating incidents to drivers, collecting their testimonies as well as examining evidence such as video recordings from dashcams, on-board cameras in vehicles . A re-examination center will be set up to deal with cases linked to incidents or suspicions of fraud.
