To protest against the downward change in their remuneration, Uber Eats delivery drivers will go on strike in France on December 2 and 3.

Under the leadership of the unions, the delivery men of the American platform Uber Eats relayed, on Sunday, a call to strike during the weekend of Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3, 2023. The little hands of the meal delivery service are railing against the drop in their income observed since 1er last November.

Uber Eats delivery drivers denounce an “unacceptable drop” in their income

Since the beginning of the month and the implementation of a new algorithm to calculate the amount of their trips, Uber Eats delivery drivers have reported a “ unacceptable decline » income, estimated between 10 and 40% and a change « opaque and incomprehensible », which are now pushing them to react.

The delivery men tried to mobilize with their representatives, but in vain. Unconvinced by the responses from Uber Eats and the Association of Independent Platforms (API) provided on November 6, they therefore have no other choice but to strike, to try to make things happen.

While the application has 65,000 independent delivery people across France, some customers may have difficulty receiving their order on time during the strike weekend. Uber Eats’ main competitor, Deliveroo, could well benefit from this.

Faced with demands, the platform defends itself and evokes an advantageous change for the independents

It was at the initiative of the CGT Livreurs and Union Indépendants unions, authors of a joint press release, that the workers took the decision to launch a national strike of delivery workers for the first weekend of December.

The opportunity for them to ask, once again, for the withdrawal of the remuneration system recently put in place by Uber Eats, and for a return to the old system. Unions and strikers are also calling for real transparency in the price of groceries, as well as an increase in remuneration for all delivery workers.

Uber Eats defends itself by explaining that the change is not intended to reduce what delivery drivers receive for an average trip. The platform adds that during its experiments, carried out in Lille, Avignon and Rouen, the average remuneration even increased by 1.4% per trip.
