Ubisoft + arrives on Xbox: the console will accumulate three subscription video game offers

Xbox wants to become the console for subscription video game services. After EA Access, which became EA Play, which had been added very quickly to the Xbox One, and the Xbox Game Pass which is turning heads in the industry, it is now the Ubisoft + service which arrives on the Microsoft console.

With this new piece of the puzzle, Xbox brings together all of the major subscription video game services that have hit the market, with the exception of the competing console’s PlayStation Now.

What is Ubisoft +?

Originally named Uplay + by the French publisher, Ubisoft + is the subscription service that provides access to all Ubisoft games as well as their DLC from launch. Where EA Play is content to add games already launched for several months by EA Play and where the Xbox Game Pass does not integrate more or less no DLC, Ubisoft tries the service all inclusive. The price suffers: 15 euros per month, it is one of the most expensive subscriptions on the market to date, especially for a catalog focusing on a single publisher.

If you play Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed or Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, the subscription can allow you to test the new titles for a price well below the purchase price of the games, especially by including the price of the DLC.

Ubisoft + is coming to Xbox

Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Extraction and Rainbow Six Siege will be offered on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on January 20. The firm also announced that the Ubisoft + service would be offered on consoles in the future without a specific date.

Such an agreement had already been the subject of rumors, but it must be understood that it is not a question of integrating the Ubisoft + service with Xbox Game Pass, but simply of offering the Ubisoft + subscription in addition to the consoles.

Ubisoft does not indicate in its press release whether or not the subscription will be separated from the service on PC. If a player wants to access the games on PC and Xbox, will they have to pay twice for the Ubisoft + subscription? This is the formula chosen by EA for EA Play. Microsoft for its part combines its consoles and PC subscriptions in a more expensive Ultimate package. Note also that the Ubisoft + subscription has already been offered on Google Stadia since 2021.
