Ubisoft cancels development of Ghost Recon Frontline and Splinter Cell VR


It was definitely not the day ofUbisoft. The publisher’s last tax report was rich in information, but we will especially remember the postponement ofAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora as well as that of an as-yet-unannounced game, described as being smaller in scale than Ubisoft’s Massive game. But there were still things to dig into on the publisher’s news side, since the journalist Stephen Tolito from the Axios site tells us thatUbisoft has canceled development of four different games, including two that were already announced.

Four games canceled by surprise

Game cancellations are something quite common in the industry, but these should be the talk of the town. We learn today thatUbisoft has terminated the development of Ghost Recon Frontline and of Splinter Cell VRtwo games that had been publicly announced.

For Ghost Recon Frontline, it’s a hell of an admission of failure on the part of Ubisoft. During its presentation, the battle royale had been strongly criticized and the first feedback had forced Ubisoft to delay the project to completely rethink it. What was to be a “gift” for the 20th anniversary of the series Ghost Recon therefore quickly turned into a nightmare, and Ubisoft has obviously decided to stop the costs here.

For Splinter Cell VRit’s a little less problematic since we knew very little about the game, but canceling a project around Splinter Cell while the license wishes to return soon with a remake, this is hardly reassuring.

And then there is also the announcement of the cancellation of two unannounced games, of which we would be nothing. We do not know if it was a large-scale project, premium games or free-to-play, but Ubisoft cut the floodgates, certainly not to scatter too much.

We don’t know about you, but we are now not quite calm for the remake of Prince of Persia with all that.
