Ubisoft responds to the controversy, players are furious

After the controversy over the price increase, Star Wars Outlaws attracts the wrath of players with a decision that is still controversial but not new in itself.

Star Wars Outlaws looks very promising with a lot of surprises and nods to the entire George Lucas saga. Well-known faces will answer the call and fans will be able to find iconic settings as well as new ones. If the news and trailers have been reassuring until now, (large) grains of sand have come to halt the promotional machine and yet another controversy has broken out. To get the full game upon release, you will have to pay full price.

Updated 2:10 p.m. : Following the controversy, explained in detail below, Ubisoft has formulated an official response. Those who want to see Jabba can rest assured, he will be there in the main game. “To clarify, Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main Star Wars Outlaws syndicates. They will therefore be part of the experience for everyone who buys the game. Regardless of the edition.
The mission “Jabba’s Gambit” is an additional optional mission with the Hutt Cartel. It will be available to those who purchase the season pass or an edition of the game including the season pass » (via IGN). A welcome statement, even if the root of the problem remains the same.

The full version of Star Wars Outlaws for €119.99 (min)

Star Wars Outlaws so far seems to tick all the boxes. Between respect for the universe, the extent of the world or even mechanics such as the reputation system which will modify the adventure, the Ubisoft title Massive (The Division 2) has something to make fans impatient. Moreover, many of them are eagerly awaiting it, like their friend Camille. But besides that, the game is scuttled a little with unpopular decisions. To begin with, we remind you that Star Wars Outlaws will require an internet connection for its installation. And we’re not talking about a connection to download a patch, but to check the validity of the copy. PC and consoles will be on equal footing since it will be a prerequisite on all platforms.

Then, there is the controversy over the prices of the different editions of the title… which is inseparable from the new emerging controversy. The software offers versions ranging from €79.99 to €139.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while those on PC are all 10 euros cheaper. The Gold and Ultimate editions contain exclusive bonuses such as 3-day early access, but also a season pass. And what do we find inside this Star Wars Outlaws season pass? An exclusive mission “Jabba’s Bet” which is therefore only available by paying €119.99 or €139.99 if you play on consoles.

Jabba’s Gambit mission in DLC, players angry

Of course, this is nothing new, but that doesn’t mean the idea is accepted today, especially given the prices of the Star Wars Outlaws versions. “€119.99 to access a mission, it’s crazy”; “Instead of getting angry because the main character isn’t sexy enough, here’s something really scandalous”; “We’re not going to pay that price for that.”; “They could at least offer the content separately”; ” That’s crazy. Why show this in the base trailer of the game. DLC should be additional content, not parts of the title blocked behind a paywall? can we read on X.

As we can see in the last comment, what is even more annoying is that we see Jabba in the trailer for the base game. So yes, the iconic character will certainly be there in other circumstances – or maybe not elsewhere – but that sends the wrong signal. And that makes things as confusing as possible.

The Star Wars Outlaws season pass will therefore allow you to obtain this famous controversial mission which will ask Kay to settle a debt from Jabba. “As Kay assembles a team for the Canto Bight heist, she receives a mission from Jabba the Hutt himself. It seems that ND-5 owes a debt to Jabba going back several years, and he has come to be repaid…” (via Ubisoft). In addition to this DLC, the season pass includes a Kessel Raid character pack, in order to have additional cosmetics for Kay and Nix – the small creature who accompanies the heroine. And you, are you ready to pay the requested amount for a bonus mission?
