Ukraine-Explosion in an ammunition depot in northern Crimea-Tass

MOSCOW, Aug 16 (Reuters) – An ammunition depot has exploded in Ukraine’s northern Crimea, Russian news agency Tass reported on Tuesday, citing authorities in the village of Mayskoye.

The Russian Ministry of Defense declared that the explosion did not cause “serious” victims, according to RIA, another Russian agency.

Earlier in the day, RIA reported that a transformer station caught fire after an explosion in the town of Dzhankoi, also in Crimea.

“A reminder: Crimea in a normal country is the Black Sea, mountains, recreation and tourism but Russian-occupied Crimea is warehouse explosions and high risk of death for occupants and thieves,” Mykhaïlo Podolyak, adviser to the Ukrainian president, wrote on Twitter after the explosions.

Ukraine has not officially confirmed or denied responsibility for the explosions reported in recent days on the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014. (Laetitia Volga, editing by Kate Entringer)
