LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Tuesday that Britain will sanction five Russian banks and three Russian businessmen after Moscow recognized two breakaway regions of Ukraine.

“Today the UK is sanctioning the following five Russian banks: Rossiya, IS Bank, General Bank, Promsviazbank and the Black Sea Bank, and we are sanctioning three individuals with very large fortunes,” the official said. head of government in parliament.

“This is the first installment, the first barrage of what we are ready to do.”

Among the three people sanctioned are businessman Gennady Timchenko, a close friend of Vladimir Putin.

“All assets they hold in the UK will be frozen and the individuals concerned will be banned from traveling here,” said Boris Johnson.
