(Reuters) – Ukraine has received a tranche of $1.5 billion (1.39 billion euros) in support funds under a World Bank program, Prime Minister Denis announced on Friday Chmihal.
“The funds will be used to cover expenses relating to social and humanitarian needs and reconstruction,” Denis Chmihal said on X.
Among the funds, $984 million comes from Japan and $516 million from the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister said.
Ukraine depends largely on financial aid from its Western partners, but foreign funding declined in the first two months of the year. American aid has been blocked for months by the Republicans in Congress.

In March, Ukraine received a first tranche of 4.5 billion euros in financing under the “Facility for Ukraine”, a program of the European Union.
Kyiv devotes the majority of its own revenue to financing its defense and relies on funds provided by its Western partners to cover social spending.
“The effective work of the government, as well as timely support from partners, allows us to maintain the stability of the financial system, even in times of large-scale aggression and daily terror on the part of the Russian Federation,” said the Minister of Finance, Serhi Marchenko, in a press release.
