Ukraine says it has foiled new drone attack on Kyiv

KYIV, December 20 (Reuters) – The Ukrainian army said on Wednesday it had foiled a new Russian drone attack which targeted Kyiv in particular, the fifth of its kind since the start of the month.

According to the Air Force, 18 of 19 drones launched against the capital and other cities, including Odessa and Kherson, were shot down.

“According to the first preliminary information, there were no casualties or destruction in the capital,” Serhi Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, said on Telegram messaging.

Ukraine’s air force also said Russia fired two missiles targeting the Kharkiv region in the east without causing any casualties.

Nine people, including four children, were injured by a nighttime drone strike in Kherson, in southeastern Ukraine, authorities said.

Russia has not yet made any comments. (Writing by Oleskand Kozhukhar and Pavel Polityuk, French version Tangi Salaün; edited by Zhifan Liu)
