Russia admits its own losses for the first time

While Ukrainian authorities have been reporting high casualties among the attacking soldiers for days, Russia has been silent for a long time about its own losses. Now the Defense Ministry is talking about dead and injured “comrades” for the first time and is threatening the Ukrainian leadership with human rights violations.
For the first time, Russia has acknowledged its own casualties in the war against Ukraine. “Russian soldiers are showing bravery and heroism in carrying out the special operation,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, according to TASS Agency. “Unfortunately, there are dead and injured among our comrades.”
Konashenkov did not give any figures. However, he emphasized that the losses were many times lower than the number of “extinct nationalists”. Russia calls Ukraine’s armed forces neo-Nazis. Ukraine said about 4,300 Russian soldiers have been killed so far. This information cannot be independently verified. There are also widely differing statements about the number of mutual prisoners of war.
Konashenkov again threatened the Ukrainian leadership. The “leaders of the Kiev regime and their executioners” are known. “You will all be found and will inevitably bear heavy responsibilities,” announced Konashenkov. He accused Ukraine of violating the Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Ukraine launched a website with images of allegedly killed and captured Russian soldiers. It was created by the Ministry of the Interior and is intended to help Russian families find missing soldiers, according to the home page. “Here you will find information about captured and killed Russian soldiers in Ukraine since the beginning of the occupation.” Photos of men were published, and some Russian badges can also be seen. Some men were injured. The dead were also photographed. In addition, documents of allegedly fallen soldiers can be found on the website.
Previously, there were calls in Ukraine to post pictures of the dead and prisoners. In addition, Kiev has set up a hotline for Russian families who are missing their loved ones during Moscow’s war against Kiev. The display of prisoners of war violates the Geneva Convention.
