WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is refining its military plans to deal with all possible scenarios should the situation in Ukraine deteriorate, the White House said on Monday.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters the United States had “never ruled out” the possibility of bolstering US military assets in Eastern European countries “before any invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

US President Joe Biden has begun exploring options to send troops to Eastern European countries in response to the deployment of Russian troops to the Ukrainian border.

Joe Biden will meet Monday evening by videoconference with French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders about the Ukraine crisis.

According to a source within the Russian delegation, new discussions in “Normandy” format between political advisers from Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany will take place on Wednesday in Paris on the subject of the conflict in the east of Ukraine.
