Demining of the entire occupied part of the Luhansk region could take at least ten years. This is what the head of the administration of the Luhansk region, Serhiy Haidai, said on Ukrainian television, as reported by the news site “Euromaidan Press”. The Ukrainian military had previously reported heavy fighting and artillery duels in the Cherson area. After initial successes, the Ukrainian leadership still wants to completely liberate the region in the south of the country. Cherson is the only regional capital that Kyiv lost control of after the Russian invasion at the end of March. In September, the area was annexed by Russia after a sham referendum, and no country recognizes this breach of international law.

The external power supply to the Ukrainian nuclear power plant at Zaporizhia has been restored after a two-day interruption. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), two lines were repaired. While the Russian-held nuclear power plant is not currently operational, the facility still needs electricity to cool core materials and prevent a nuclear accident. The two lines were damaged after a shelling in Ukrainian-controlled area about 60 kilometers from the nuclear power plant. The electricity supply to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant was secured until it was repaired with emergency generators, which have enough fuel for around 15 days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Iran of lying about the number of drones it has shipped to Russia. “Even with this confession, they lie,” said the Ukrainian leader in his daily video message. The armed forces in Kyiv shoot down at least ten drones every day, says Zelenskyj. On Friday alone, eleven drones were destroyed by the Ukrainian army. Iran had previously admitted to supplying drones to Russia for the first time. Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian explained that this happened in “small numbers” and a few months before Russia invaded Ukraine. Ukraine has reported a series of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, using Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. Russia denies its troops are using Iranian drones in Ukraine.

The former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, has rejected statements made by SPD faction leader Rolf Mutzenich about an alleged Ukrainian “terrorist list”. Mützenich had accused the government in Kyiv of putting him on such a list because he advocated a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine. Melnyk wrote on Twitter: “Mimimi. There is no ‘terror list’ from the Ukrainian government. Stop presenting yourself as an ‘innocent victim’.”

The Russian armed forces have not yet succeeded in destroying the US-supplied HIMARS rocket launchers. That reports Politico, referring to a senior Pentagon official. However, Ukraine still needs a significant amount of artillery for the upcoming battle, the official added. Consumption rates in this war are high, according to Politico: Ukraine fires 4,000 to 7,000 artillery shells every day, while Russia fires 20,000 per day.
