Under its original look, this all-terrain electric scooter is aimed at an unlikely clientele

The Canadian firm Tectus has just presented its Tectus AWD, a sort of three-wheeled electric scooter, with a closed body, and above all equipped with all-wheel drive!

The Tectus is a fully enclosed mobility scooter with on-road and off-road capabilities.

It is not uncommon to come across machines that are original to say the least. A few days ago this scooter transformed into a tuk-tuk. Or the Twike which is halfway between an electric car and an electrically assisted bicycle, and which offers impressive autonomy. Come on gift, we have just come across a new machine which deserves your attention for its aesthetic originality as well as for the mechanics it hides. Her name ? The Tectus;

And yes, it may be the return of the closed scooter, as the BMW C1 was in its time. Or almost ? Because there, the Tectus offers a completely closed passenger compartment. And difference in size, it has three wheels: two at the rear, and one at the front. And it will not have escaped your notice that this single-seater vehicle has large tires ready to go off the beaten track. There’s a good reason for that.

He’s hiding his game

Indeed, the Tectus, which is produced by the Canadian company Avvenire, offers all-wheel drive. Yes yes, all the wheels, all three, are driven. Two electric motors are located in the machine, one for the front wheel, the other for the rear axle. The total power is rather limited with 2000 watts (2 KW), as is the top speed of only 32 km/h.

In reality, this Tectus is not intended to accommodate backpackers under its awning which tilts forward to be able to enter the passenger compartment. Avvenire instead thought about… the elderly. Frankly, when you see its look and its big tubes instead of tires, you wouldn’t have thought of it. The goal is to offer them a machine that allows them to travel whatever the weather conditions, rain, cold, etc. And if the pilot does not go very quickly, he will be able to go far with his 180 km of autonomy.

Well equipped, this funny scooter which could appeal well beyond just elderly customers, offers for example air conditioning, heating, reversing camera, GPS or even induction charging for smartphones. His price ? From 6995 dollars, or 6500 euros excluding taxes.
