About twenty doctors, women and men, sign a column published on the Huffington Post information site and entitled “After 5 waves of Covid-19, women resuscitators are still absent from the media”. A rant against the media under-representation of women resuscitators and its consequences.
They have been absent from the media since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Women resuscitators are protesting against their under-representation in the media, unlike their male colleagues. Anger that takes the form of a column entitled “After 5 waves of Covid-19, women resuscitators still absent from the media”, published in the Huffington Post and signed by about twenty doctors, women and men.
The signatories recall that the under-representation of women experts in this field was already a problem during the first wave. Even though 48.8% of practicing physicians are women according to the Council of the National Order of Physicians, the overwhelming majority of male physicians (73%) were interviewed in the media.
A media under-representation which is not without consequences
And things don’t seem to have changed since. The signatory resuscitators believe that the problem lies first of all in an under-representation of women among university professors. However, it is precisely these professors who are the most sought after by the media.
For the collective signing this forum, the problem is therefore systemic and transcultural. And this media under-representation is not without consequences. According to the group of women doctors, “being less visible means being seen as less effective, less efficient and less influential”.
