(AOF) – The American airline United Airlines should resume its flights to Cuba, which have been suspended since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She said today that she was working on it. The stock rose in pre-market trading 0.61% to $36.34, after closing at $36.12 yesterday. The Chicago-based US airline said it had been working for months to revive the service but was encountering some obstacles.
She applied to the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) for a waiver for an additional 30 days so she could resume service.
United Airlines previously operated seven weekly flights to Havana from its hubs in Houston and Newark. The company said it must “undertake significant work, including the renegotiation of several contracts with service providers that have expired, the establishment of the necessary infrastructure in Terminal 3 of Havana airport where United are relocated.”
American Airlines and JetBlue also received approval from the US Department of Transportation (DoT) under DOT-OST-2016-0021 to increase frequencies for their operations between the US and Cuba.
In August, these two airlines requested new frequencies for their services to Havana (HAV) from their main hubs in Florida.
