United Kingdom: manufacturing contraction deepens

(CercleFinance.com) – The contraction in the United Kingdom’s manufacturing sector deepened at the end of last year, according to the S&P Global PMI index, which deteriorated from 47.2 in November to 46.2 in December 2023.

The index is thus lower for the 17th month in a row than the bar of 50 which separates expansion and contraction of activity (the lower the index is below this threshold, the stronger the pace of contraction).

S&P Global said output, new orders and employment all fell in the UK manufacturing sector last month, and manufacturing confidence hit a 12-month low.
