United Kingdom: Prince Charles pays tribute to his mother for his 70 years of reign

LONDON (Reuters) – Prince Charles, heir to the throne of England, paid tribute on Sunday to his mother Elizabeth II for her 70 years of reign, saying that the anniversary was an opportunity for the British to come together.

This Sunday marks the platinum jubilee of the Queen, aged 95, a first for a British monarch who will be more widely celebrated in early June, the anniversary of his coronation on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey.

“The year of this unprecedented Platinum Jubilee provides us with an opportunity to commune in celebration of the Queen’s service, whose example will continue to guide us in years to come,” Prince Charles said.

The Prince of Wales also thanked his mother for her announcement the day before, when she expressed the hope that Camilla, wife of Charles, would be granted the title of queen consort when he himself becomes king.
