(Reuters) – The number of job openings in the United States increased in December, a sign of a job market that remains resistant to interest rate increases by the American Federal Reserve.

Job openings, a measure of labor demand, rebounded to 9.026 million in December, according to the Labor Department’s latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (Jolts) report released Tuesday.

Those for November were revised upwards, to 8.925 million, against 8.790 million initially announced.

Economists polled by Reuters expected 8.750 million job openings in December.
