An American billionaire in advertising technology did not renew his membership in the Salt Lake City (United States) -based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, before donating 531,231 euros to the advocacy group. LGBTQ Equality Utah rights this Monday, December 20.
Unhappy with the work of his Mormon church in recent years, Jeff T. Green formalized his resignation on Monday via a letter addressed to church president Russell M.Nelson.
“While most of the members are good people who are trying to do good, I believe the church is actively and currently doing evil in the world. I believe the Mormon Church has hindered global progress on women’s rights, civil rights and racial equality, and LGBTQ + rights, ”the 44-year-old billionaire told the Salt Lake Tribune.
The president of the company “The Trade Desk”, specializing in advertising technology, also announced his intention to bequeath 90% of his fortune, or the equivalent of 4.427 billion euros. To begin with, Jeff T. Green made a donation of 531,231 euros in favor of the Equality Utah association, which defends LGBTQ rights.
Critics of their conservative line
Criticized for its positions against same-sex marriage, the church has also been attacked for its conservative stance. For example, women still do not have access to the priesthood, and black men have had this opportunity only since 1970.
A charge of fraud and embezzlement of contributions was brought by another saint in the Mormon organization earlier this year, causing turmoil in the management and organization of the latter.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is, however, a strong actor in humanitarian and social aid in the United States, with nearly 885 million euros invested each year in this area.
