Cathy Hummels has made a life-changing decision. For her son. She will no longer show Ludwig on Instagram. She explains in a text why she is making this 180 degree turn. But she is also receiving criticism for this.
Cathy Hummels “almost fell over from fright and shock”
About a week ago, Cathy Hummels published the first part of a letter to her community in which she explained why she no longer wanted to show Ludwig on Instagram. While the text sounds mature and sensible and well thought out, many of her followers at the time were bothered by the image she chose. Cathy can be seen with the newly born Ludwig. She is breastfeeding her son. A moment that is hard to beat in terms of intimacy. And that’s exactly what her followers disliked. “How can you make a plea that it’s not nice when you as a child find intimate moments on the Internet and then post a picture of breastfeeding that child at the same time! That goes beyond my human logic,” she complained to a follower. “Image and text are in complete contradiction to each other. Now she has her attention again at the expense of her son,” said another.
A week later, Cathy published the second part of her letter. She is self-critical and reflective. “Was I naive and inconsistent? Yes! Ludwig is my life, my love, my heart, simply mine & everything. I wanted to show him to you so that you, my community, can be taken along and you too know what his smile looks like [sic]”, she writes. And she goes on to admit: “I never thought about what consequences it might have for HIM to actually show it.” And then she mentions an “unpleasantly awakening incident that came to my attention was made and to be honest I almost fell over from shock and shock. [sic]” Cathy doesn’t go into detail about what exactly happened. But it seems to have been so bad that the 35-year-old then decided to stop showing her son on Instagram.
But her fans are not completely satisfied with this decision and its implementation either. “But then please delete all old pictures from your account,” demands one follower. “Then why is the breastfeeding photo still in your feed? No, breastfeeding is not disgusting. But he is part of the picture as a baby and that does not correspond to his wishes and your view presented here,” says another.
Cathy Hummels has not yet responded to the critical voices.
