Unprecedented rebound in salaried employment in 2021


ANALYSIS – The private sector recorded 648,000 net job creations over one year at the end of last year, exceeding its pre-crisis level by 300,000.

On the employment front, 2021 will have been the year of all records. And it is not the publication, this Friday, of private salaried employment figures that will contradict this dynamic. With 648,200 job creations, private salaried employment recorded an unprecedented jump last year, or 3.3% according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).

It is necessary to go back more than twenty years back, in 2000, to be able to find similar performances. At the time, some 600,000 jobs had been created in twelve months, which represented a historic increase of 3.9%. But since then, such a trend had never been observed.

At the start of 2022, salaried employment thus exceeded by 1.5% – i.e. 297,300 jobs – its level before the crisis, at the end of 2019.
