Unusual place – opera in the Lungau takes place in the steel construction hall

High culture can be experienced in a rather unusual place in the Lungau.

Armchairs in the auditorium upholstered in fine fabric, wine-red velvet curtains and stucco work on the ceiling – you won’t find any of that when you visit the opera in Lungau. In Mauterndorf, Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” is performed in a steel construction hall. The production hall was specially cleared out for this purpose. “Even the heaviest machine with around 15 tons had to go,” says the Lungau baritone and director Rafael Fingerlos. The final rehearsals for the big premiere on Wednesday are currently underway in the hall that has been converted into an opera house. Above all, the incident light and the acoustics posed a challenge in the unusual environment. “Many people said they thought it was impossible to do opera here. But I always wanted to perform a great opera in my home country. And it works.” Above all, however, he wants to bring high culture directly to people on their doorstep with the “Lungau Opera” project in an uncomplicated manner. Marcus Merkel from Berlin will be in charge of the musical direction. The director Rafael Fingerlos will also be on stage in the role of Guglielmo.
