Does King Charles (75) let the timing of his appointments speak for themselves? As reported by the Daily Mail, among others, Buckingham Palace announced that the British monarch would take part in a joint military event with Prince William (41) next week. The heir to the throne should be appointed colonel of the army aviation corps. Royal insiders see this announcement as a further attack against Charles’ younger son Prince Harry (39), who has withdrawn from his role as an active royal.

Before Prince Harry’s decision to step back from his royal duties, it was always assumed that he would take on the role of colonel. This would have given him leadership of the regiment with which he was in Afghanistan. King Charles himself held this role for 31 years.

It has been known since August 2023that William would take on this role after Harry’s retirement in 2020. But the announcement that the time had come, according to the Daily Mail, came two hours after it was announced that Charles was too busy to meet Prince Harry in London. The 39-year-old is currently in his homeland to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Was the timing deliberately chosen?

“Timing is everything,” says a royal insider to the Daily Mail the announcements. Another expert estimates that Charles’ decision not to see Harry during his stopover in England will be “widely perceived as a snub.”

Prince Harry’s spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that there would be no meeting with his father during his stay in London. Unfortunately, this was not possible due to His Majesty’s busy schedule, it was said. He “of course understands his father’s busy schedule full of commitments and various other priorities.” The 39-year-old hopes to see his father King Charles “soon”.

Prince Harry in London for just a few days

Prince Harry arrived in London from California on Tuesday without his wife Meghan (42) and their two children Archie (5) and Lilibet (2) to celebrate the anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Following the celebrations, Prince Harry is scheduled to travel to Nigeria with Meghan this week. The African country’s highest-ranking military official invited them. This is also about the Invictus Games.
