Canal + has announced the arrival of new features on its myCANAL platform. Small cosmetic touches that recall the style of classic SVoD services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
A few months ago, Canal + threatened to abandon its current model to adopt a format closer to classic SVoD services, so as not to be penalized vis-à-vis the latter for the sums of money injected into the service. But that didn’t stop her from thinking about the interface of myCANAL, her in-house application.
In The Parisian, the group’s digital director (sic), Pierre-Emmanuel Ferrand, detailed several new features to come on the platform. Features that are often borrowed from other big names in the sector, starting with its leader, Netflix. Automatic launch of the thumbnails of the selected programs, start of the trailer of a film or a series after a click on its title, possibility of skipping a credits and chaining the episodes … These cosmetic adjustments will erase the some differences that still existed between myCANAL and its rivals, at least in terms of user experience.
9 million Canal + subscribers in France
In the same vein, Canal + intends to ride on the very strong trend towards editorialization and recommendation. The section “The myCANAL of …”, which offers celebrities the possibility of putting their favorite programs forward, will thus be expanded, while “three or four layers, editorialized according to the tastes of each one” will complete the application interface.
