Update: cause of fire – solar system has caused fire in the farm

A farm fire on Saturday evening in Waldhausen im Strudengau triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade. The fire broke out in the attic. A defect in the solar system was identified as the cause of the fire.

After the alarm was raised, twelve fire brigades with around 140 emergency services responded to the farm fire in Waldhausen. No one was injured, and the flames were prevented from spreading to adjacent buildings. Due to the location, however, the supply of extinguishing water was difficult. A 30-year-old resident discovered around 7 p.m. that smoke was coming from the south-eastern area of the roof structure. Due to the remote location, the extinguishing water had to be transported to the site with the help of other farmers with liquid manure barrels. The operation went beyond national borders. Due to the alarm level 2, two fire brigades from neighboring Lower Austria also approached. In the meantime, experts from the Upper Austrian fire prevention agency have examined the house, which is uninhabitable and in danger of collapsing. During the investigation, it was determined that the fire most likely started on the roof in the area of the solar thermal system. It is assumed that the electronic control of the solar system was defective and that the water cycle stagnated and overheated, which led to the fire.
