Update: everyone rescued – evacuation from defective gondolas on Dachstein

A spectacular rescue operation at Dachstein-Krippenstein ended well: two gondolas had to be evacuated because a technical defect paralyzed them. All those affected are now safely on the ground and on the way to the valley.

The 20 people in the gondolas also imagined the trip to the Dachstein on sunny Sunday differently. In the afternoon there was a technical defect on the third section of the cable car to Gjaidalm. Two gondolas were affected – one had 17 guests and one had a guest, plus one accompanying person each – that’s 20 occupants. Everyone remained uninjured and was brought to safety by management and mountain rescue. The gondolas have their own equipment for this emergency, with which those affected can be rappelled down. “The affected guests are already in the mountain station, are being looked after by cable car employees and can continue the descent from there. Sections 1 and 2 are not affected by the standstill and will remain in normal operation today until the end of operations and tomorrow. Section 3 will remain closed until further notice,” says the cable car holding company. Guests remaining in the hiking area in the area of the third section will receive a Shuttle service to the mountain station of the Dachstein Krippenstein Bahn has been set up – from there the further descent with the first two sections of the Dachstein Krippenstein Bahn is possible. Peter Grögler from the cable cars assures that “every guest gets to the valley safely”. It is not known how many hikers from the Dachstein still come to the cable car station, as operations should actually run until 6 p.m. The cause of the defect is still unclear.
