To the picture in which the German politician is holding the baby in her arms, she writes: “Such a magical moment – my first grandchild.” She also uses the hashtag #ProudGrandma (Eng. #StolzeOma).
However, it does not disclose exactly when the baby was born, its name or gender. The politician has been married to Heiko von der Leyen (65) since 1986. It is also not known which of her seven children, all of whom are of legal age, had the baby.
She was already looking forward to becoming a grandma
In 2018, Ursula von der Leyen had already revealed in an interview with the magazine “Closer” how much she was waiting to finally become a grandmother. Many of her friends were already grandmothers at this point. “Of course I’m really looking forward to it,” said the now 62-year-old. “I see the enthusiasm my friends develop. But now the children have to go through their training first – they can still take their time,” she laughed at the time.
