WASHINGTON/BEIRUT (Reuters) – A U.S. base in the Al-Omar oil field in northeastern Syria was the target of a missile strike on Friday morning, according to pro-Lebanese TV channel -Iranian Al Mayadeen and a security source.

The attack took place around 11 a.m. (0900 GMT), the security source told Reuters. We don’t know if there were any casualties. The United States did not immediately comment.

The attack follows US airstrikes in Syria early on Friday against groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The Pentagon accused these groups of organizing a drone attack on Thursday that killed a freelance worker, the Pentagon said.

Thursday’s drone attack was directed at a US-held coalition base near Hassakeh in northeastern Syria, the Pentagon said.

She injured five American soldiers.

US intelligence services had estimated that the drone used was of Iranian origin, the army said.
