US elections 2024 – Former Vice President Mike Pence withdraws candidacy – News

  • Mike Pence is withdrawing from the race for the 2024 US presidential election.
  • The former US vice president is ending his campaign.
  • He said this himself at a Jewish Republican event in Las Vegas.

“After much prayer and consideration, as of today, I have decided to suspend my campaign for President,” Pence said at the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting in Las Vegas. “We always knew this would be a tough fight, but I have no regrets,” he said.

The decision comes more than two months before the Iowa caucuses, on which he had focused his campaign. According to the AP news agency, Pence is said to have had difficulties raising money for his campaign. He started his fight for the presidency last June. However, his campaign never got off the ground.

A swipe at Trump?

Pence is the first major candidate to withdraw from a race dominated by his former boss and current rival Donald Trump.

The former US Vice President did not make any election recommendations, but called for electing someone who appeals to the better side of people and can lead with “politeness”.

In addition to Trump, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, and the former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, are also still in the running.
